Allegiant Air is adding nine new routes to its map — including three new routes from both Austin (AUS) and Nashville (BNA).The new routes include service from Austin to Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. (IAD), and the relatively short hop from Nashville to Roanoke, Virginia (ROA). Flint, Michigan (FNT), also sees new service to Savannah, Georgia (SAV), and Des Moines, Iowa (DSM) gets air service to Orange County, California (SNA).Want more airline-specific news? For its new route from the Texas capital to the nation’s capital (via Washington Dulles), Allegiant faces competition from United Airlines, which operates a hub at IAD, and American Airlines, which has an unofficial focus city in Austin. A new route from Austin to San Diego (SAN) puts Allegiant up against Southwest Airlines, which has a significant presence in both cities, and Alaska Airlines, which has a focus city in San Diego.“We’re thrilled to kick off 2022 with a network expansion in twelve of our markets,” Drew Wells, Allegiant’s senior vice president of revenue and planning, said in a statement. “These new routes will grow our presence in Austin, where we recently opened a base, while connecting travelers in some of the smaller cities we serve to several popular vacation destinations such as Nashville, Savannah, Roanoke and San Diego.“More: Allegiant used to love flying used planes; now it’s betting big on new jetsSign up for our daily newsletterEmail addressSign upI would like to subscribe to The Points Guy newsletters and special email promotions.
