Even if the thought of working out on vacation usually has you reaching for the snooze button, a new lineup of fitness classes offered at Disneyland just might have you springing from bed to lace up your sneakers (and don those Mickey ears).Tenaya Stone Spa, which opened at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in September 2021, is introducing a series of new fitness classes that gives guests staying at the on-property hotels at Disneyland the chance to log their workout in some seriously magical settings, from Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure Park to the Fountain Pool at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa.Want more travel news and advice from TPG? Sign up for our daily newsletter.Guests with an overnight stay at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, the Disneyland Hotel or Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel can participate in more than a dozen fitness classes, ranging in length from 30 to 45 minutes. The classes, which are available for an additional fee ranging from $25 to $30 per class, include yoga, circuit training, power walking and a boot camp — and they’re definitely not your garden-variety hotel sweat sessions.“We have the unique opportunity to bring exclusive fitness offerings that you cannot find anywhere else in the world,” says Brett Perkins, director of Tenaya Stone Spa. “Imagine experiencing the serenity of Disney’s California Adventure before the park awakens, while you travel from land to land with a high-intensity workout. Classes are held early enough to give you time to head back to your hotel to change or have breakfast before returning for a day in the park.(Photo courtesy of Disneyland Resort)Power Walking WorkoutThis 60-minute “energetic walk and active stretching” class takes participants throughout the theme park for up to two miles at a 15- to 18-minute per mile pace.Pre-pandemic, an early-morning power walk around Disney California Adventure Park was a popular complementary offering among Disneyland Resort hotel guests and Disney Vacation Club members. Tight, sore muscles get relief during Fascia Release; cores get the focus during Quick Core; and Sound Meditation takes you away from it all.Bottom lineReservations are required for fitness classes and can be made online, by phone or by visiting Tenaya Stone Spa. Classes held in Disney California Adventure Park don’t include park admission and participants will need to exit the park at the end of class. You do have to be at least 18 years old to participate in these fitness classes, though minors ages 14 to 17 may participate with written consent if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.You’ve got all year long to work out at home, and plenty of opportunities to stay active walking around the parks during normal hours of operation, so should you bother spending extra money and waking up early on your vacation to take one of these classes?Unless you are decisively not a morning person, getting the opportunity to spend time in an empty theme park can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience in its own right. The chance to spend time in Disney California Adventure — a beautiful park — just after sunrise and see its lands begin to awaken is easily worth $25. Plus, you’ll get the added bonus of giving yourself a little health and fitness boost to set your day on the right track.
