Guide To Cooking Canned Potatoes
Maybe you’ve seen some canned potatoes on the shelf at the grocery store or you have some that have been sitting in your pantry for a while and you just don’t know what to do with them. Today, I’m going to show you my favorite 3 methods for cooking canned potatoes along with some tasty recipes you can use them in!
Potatoes in a can are cheap, convenient, and super easy to prepare. Plus, they are still super tasty!
What Are Canned Potatoes
Canned potatoes are exactly what they sound like: potatoes in a can. You can buy them whole, diced, or sliced.
When canned, they are only partially cooked so you will still want to cook them before eating them. They last much longer than fresh potatoes so it is always a good idea to keep a few cans on hand!
Ingredients
Just like with fresh potatoes, you’ll want to have a few extra ingredients on hand (mainly seasonings) to add some extra flavor to your dish! Here are some spices and herbs that would taste fantastic, but you can feel free to swap out these spices for some of your favorites!
- Canned Potatoes - One 15-ounce can of whole potatoes. Butter - 2 tablespoons of butter. I prefer butter for its rich flavor, but some olive oil would work as well. Dill Weed - 1 teaspoon of dill weed.Parmesan - 1 teaspoon of Parmesan cheese (grated). Garlic Powder - ½ teaspoon of garlic powder.Parsley - ½ teaspoon of parsley (dried). Onion Powder - ¼ teaspoon of onion powder. Pepper - A pinch of ground black pepper, to taste.Olive Oil - ½ tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. This will prevent the butter from burning.
