My easy 4-ingredient Instant Pot Buttered Cabbage is a delicious side dish you’ll want to make again and again! A pressure cooker is my favorite way to make tender, buttery cabbage in a jiffy!
It’s so easy to make perfectly cooked buttered cabbage right in your Instant Pot!
Cabbage is such a versatile vegetable, and when cooked correctly it can be downright indulgent and delicious. If you are lucky enough to have an Instant Pot, you can whip up some buttered cabbage with practically no effort at all.
When cooked with a pressure cooker, cabbage becomes tender but not at all mushy This is why I love this method just as much as sauteing cabbage in a skillet.
If you aren’t a fan of cabbage, I still suggest you try this recipe- it might just change your mind about eating your greens!

Buttered cabbage goes wonderfully with any number of meaty main dishes like my baked chicken thighs. It’s a simple side dish with tons of flavor! Enjoy!
💭 Angela’s Tips & Recipe Notes
- To make this dish vegetarian, substitute vegetable broth for the chicken broth. For extra chicken flavor, add a bouillon cube to the broth. This will also make the broth saltier, so adjust your salt as needed. It is also delicious with a squeeze of lemon, or your favorite hot sauce.
🥡 Storing & Reheating
Place leftover buttered cabbage into an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to 3-4 days.
I do not recommend freezing cabbage. Cabbage is full of water, so its texture changes when frozen.
Reheating
You can reheat your cabbage in the microwave for a few minutes or in a skillet on the stove over medium-low heat just until warmed through.

What’s the best way to cut cabbage into chunks? First, cut your cabbage in half length-wise through the thick stem, or ‘core’. Use a sharp knife to remove the triangular core. Once it is removed, lay the cabbage flat and slice it into strips. From there, you can stop if wanting strips or chop to desired size. Can I add other veggies to this? You can! I find that carrots or carrot strips are delicious with cabbage. You could also saute onions and add them, or add them raw with the cabbage.
