Attention Marriott Bonvoy loyalists, it’s time to check in on your account as Free Night Award and Suite Night Award extensions are showing up online.As TPG reported last month, Marriott Suite Night Award certificates set to expire by Dec. 21, 2021 and Free Night Award certificates set to expire between Jan. 3 and June 29, 2022, will be extended through June 30, 2022. This includes Free Night Award certificates, such as those earned from holding Marriott cobranded credit cards and elite status annual Choice Benefits.For more TPG news delivered each morning to your inbox, sign up for our daily newsletter.As of today, those extensions are beginning to show up online and have been confirmed by a number of TPG staffers eligible for the extensions.(Screenshot courtesy of Marriott)While most of our staff have seen the updates reflected in their personal accounts, some are still waiting for extensions on 35,000-point certificates. It’s unclear exactly how Marriott is releasing the extensions, so if you haven’t seen yours reflected yet, check back frequently.Cancel early 2022 suite night award requestsIf you did receive an extension, this could be a good opportunity to cancel Suite Night Award requests for the first half of 2022 if you have leftover Suite Night Awards from 2021.For example, TPG senior editor Nick Ewen had requested to use two 2022 Suite Night Award certificates for one-night stays for March 4 and June 4 of next year but decided to cancel one of those requests to use a now-extended certificate instead.After receiving the extensions and before canceling his request, Ewen’s account showed two Suite Night Awards expiring June 30, 2022 and four Suite Night Awards expiring Dec. 31, 2022, as shown below.(Screenshot courtesy of Marriott)In less than five minutes, Ewen was able to modify his reservation and cancel his original Suite Night Award request online under the “Change your room selections” option in the booking.Sign up for our daily newsletterEmail addressSign upI would like to subscribe to The Points Guy newsletters and special email promotions. Those changes are not currently set to take effect until March, 2022. For now, guests can continue to book Marriott properties using the award chart we’re all used to. And of course, there are plenty of great hotels to book before the awards chart disappears for good.
